Yes, I know it is bad to mock the recently unemployed. We all could fine ourselves on the wrong end of economic bad luck. Still, given how the lefty media (and some on the right) were particularly unfeeling and unsympathetic to those in economic straights in the recent past, I am less than sympathetic to Buzzfeed and other media groups suffering layoffs now.  Especially since it is partially (actually largely) brought on by their own bad behavior.

I've dealt with a lot of media outlets over the years. The two most dishonest, untrustworthy, don't care if they got it wrong ones are Buzzfeed and the New York Times. So yes, I am glad people got laid off from Buzzfeed. If the rest of them got laid off, that would be even better

I recognize Mexicans (and neighboring Central and South countries) are sensitive about North American bullying. But I also recognize Trump is no fool when it comes to negotiating, he knows it is carrots and sticks. And being respectful to Mexico does not mean we have to tolerate Mexico ignoring our borders.  

The "wall" is one aspect of border security. We also need to start enforcing our existing laws and coming up with a system to track visa overstays (almost half of illegal immigration are people who fly into the USA and overstay their visas). We need to start fining employers who hire illegals (in a way that makes hiring illegals not worth the trouble). Efforts to deport illegals needs to start with criminals. We do those things and you mostly solve the immigration issue.

I recognize this decision hardly solves the issue of manufacturing jobs moving out of the United States, but it still bodes well. It is a good start, especially since Donald Trump is not yet in office.  

United Technologies, that happens to own Carrier, also happens to have billions in various government contracts. That would include Pratt & Whitney and the F-35 engine contract. While I doubt there was overt quid pro quo, it does make sense for United Technologies not to pull jobs from the USA right now.

Why was Keith Lamont Scott killed and what is behind the protests in Charlotte?

I had not commented on this event initially because I was waiting for facts to come out (and what limited information that was available was already being addressed by many others).  While information is slowly coming out (such as the police reporting Scott had a gun), it still remains unclear what happened in this case, other than Officer Bentley Vinson allegedly shot and killed Scott. 

I do not fault the black community being upset about police shootings, but rioting is not the answer.  If you think this is bad, imagine if there were no police. This shooting needs to be investigated to figure out what actually happened.

Donald Trump:

The agitators from outside who swarmed on Charlotte to stir up trouble are a different issue. They are not protesters, they are violent thugs. Are these the same agitators who went into Ferguson (I suspect some of them are)? Is Soros funding this?

Still, there is a lot of anger at the grass root level. Baltimore protesters who were arrested for rioting turned out to be mostly local. There has to be an effort to improve communication and relations between police departments and the African American community.

As much as I disagree with Colin Kaepernick's method of protesting--the underlying issue in the African American community is a real dispute (even if the actual issue of cops shooting blacks is pretty small compared to violence out there). The question is how to address it. #BlackLivesMatter are opportunistic race-baiters, aligned with George Soros, who want to cause derision and turmoil. They are definitely not about solutions.

I would argue that this tension between police and African American communities is a symptom of a bigger issue. Isn't the real crisis facing African American communities lack of jobs and opportunity? Entry level workers lose out to immigrants. Amnesty and illegal immigration destroy jobs for African American youth. You have Democrat politicians trying to make people more dependent, while entry level jobs are going to immigrants, all for short term political gain.
