The Defense Witness Who Folded In The Karmelo Anthony Trial

EBL: Karmelo Anthony Found Guilty and Karmelo Anthony Trial

I wish this trial had been recorded (even if not televised live). The reason Karmelo Anthony was convicted is the facts of this case did not support self defense. Karmelo Anthony killed Austin Metcalf for no reason other than his own fragile sense of "honor." There was no honor in that, just devastation.

Karmelo Anthony Found Guilty of Murder

It didn't sound like trial was going well for Mr. Anthony and sure enough--it wasn't.

My heart goes out to the Metcalf family. While I support the verdict, it's tragic for Anthony's family too.

Raising boys to think it is ok to stab someone if they "lay hands on you" (regardless of level) is the same culture that results in dozens of black on black shootings every weekend in Chicago. That is the tragedy of this, it just keeps escallating.

At least dueling culture, back in the day, had specific rules. This is just thug stuff. Now Karmelo Anthony will have years to contemplate his actions.

The jury sentenced Karmelo Anthony to 35 years. He is eligible for parole in 17.5 years.

Karmelo Anthony will be convicted and sentenced to life in prison.

As he should.

He murdered that boy because he was raised to hate white people and to view himself as a victim in every situation.

A jury convicted Karmelo Anthony of murder for stabbing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf to death. Evidence was presented. Witnesses testified. Self-defense was rejected. He got 35 years.

I don’t celebrate anything about the Karmelo conviction. I’m happy justice was done, but the whole thing is sad. One young life gone. Another effectively over. Groups of black people who’ve been lied to about everything their whole lives will be mad about it.

So far the claims of raaaaacism are not preventing Karmelo's black coach and teammates from testifying. Because people of good faith are horrified by a kid murdering another kid over something so trivial. The prosecution has rested. The Defense is still calling witnesses.

Andrew Branca breaks down the video frame by frame. I thought it was pretty damning for Sean Grayson (on first view yesterday), but the video analysis does give a different perspective. The case will still likely go to trial and I still think Sean Grayson has a real risk of being convicted.

Alec Baldwin's Manslaughter Trial Dismissed With Prejudice

Judge just ruled on prosecutor misconduct in holding back evidence. Dismissed case against Baldwin.

Wow. I did not see that coming. Interesting if this gets appealed.

For now, Killer Baldwin Goes Free.

Update: I was watching the live feed when this happened. The evidence in question is arguably not material and a dismissal was not warranted. We will see if the Prosecutor appeals this (that office may). Andrew Branca (as usual) had some very good takes on the law in this matter.

Halyna Hutchins is unavailable for comment.

While I have some sympathy for Ms. Gutierrez-Reed, I have more sympathy for Halyna Hutchins.

What happened on that set was at a minimum reckless. She and Baldwin acted wrongfully.

A jury may not find Baldwin criminally culpable, but Baldwin killed Halyna.
