I did not agree with every position he took in life, but Leo Tolstoy was no statist: "The truth is that the State is a conspiracy designed not only to exploit, but above all to corrupt its citizens ... Henceforth, I shall never serve any government anywhere." Here are photographs showing his transformation over his life. He died at age 82.
