Segregationist Democrat Senator James Eastland called Joe Biden son, not boy...

“I was in a caucus with James O. Eastland,” Mr. Biden said, slipping briefly into a Southern accent, according to a pool report from the fund-raiser. “He never called me ‘boy,’ he always called me ‘son.’ ”
Slate has a video of Mike Wallace interviewing Democrat Senator James O. Eastland in 1957. It is an interesting interview (it is not available on YouTube). Most today won't support Senator Eastland's positions on segregation, but Eastwood is right pointing out racism (and the hypocrisy) in the North at the time. Segregation, in terms of neighborhoods, is still very much the norm in the North today. Senate Eastland was right about that, the South is more integrated.

Biden's comments and the reaction to it will probably come up in the pending Democrat debates. While I doubt Democrats will bring up NXIVM and Raniere with Kirsten Gillibrand, I suspect we will be hearing more about  Biden's civil relationships with segregationists.

Powerline aplauds Biden for not apologizing. While I agree in that sentiment in a general sense (giving into the social justice mob is a bad idea), it is too soon to tell if Biden will fold or not. You have Harris, Booker, and De Blasio criticizing Biden.

Cory Booker: I Am Spartacus

Some Senators like oysters, others prefer snails, but Cory Booker is one of those Senators who love the cameras!

Cory Booker, Kamala Harris were not seriously blocking Judge Kavanaugh's confirmation (at least I hope they are not that delusional). They were virtue signalling to their supporters. But a lot of their supporters are completely insane. Do they think this circus helps them? Objectively, the economy is better under Trump, so the Democrats want control so they can focus on other things.

Obama just gave a speech promising lots of free stuff.  Who will pay for it?

Mark Zuckerberg's Failed Donation To Newark Public Schools

Money going in is not the problem in Newark, NJ public schools. Newark spends about $23,000 per student in Newark. Do you think those public schools deliver anywhere near $23,000 in value to those students?

Zuckerberg's donation got sucked up in the vortex of Teacher Union entitlements and protections, consultants and what appears to be an intentional scuttling of charter schools (which could have helped make a difference).

So in the end, a sizable donation ends up making things worse, not better.  Throwing money at the problem is not the way to fix it.

I wish Zuckerberg endowed some primary, secondary, and high schools in Newark. That might have made a huge difference (at least for the kids who got to go there). It would also highlight the problem with Newark schools is not the kids, but the administration and corruption of the district.
