Rand Paul and Dana Loesch not fans of the "Big Beautiful Bill"

The tax cuts and no tax on tips are good, but the "Big Beautiful Bill" is not going nearly far enough in cutting. Dana Loesch noted this morning on her radio show that it is still funding Planned Parenthood and a bunch of Biden's Green Deal. Rand Paul notes that he cannot support a bill that expands government deficits by trillions of dollars each year. That is not sustainable. The debt ceiling cannot be expanded.

As Rand Paul noted, if Congress gives a "recission" vote (which only requires a simple majority), Trump and DOGE have authority to undercut most of the legal challenges to DOGE.

I get politics is of the possible. Still, we need to cut, not fund, discretionary spending. Certainly things like Planned Parenthood need to go (even if it just a small portion of this).  We have to get fiscal issues under control.  Update: Big Beautiful Bill passes in House

Elizabeth Warren: Do You Have A Plan For This? 👨🏻‍🎓👩🏻‍🎓🤷🏻‍♀️💰

The Democrats are shamelessly trying to curry favor with college kids (promising to forgive all their debt). It is a scam. Meanwhile Democrats deny poor kids school choice and decent primary education. Donald Trump supports school choice for poor kids (mostly black and brown)--and they call him racist.

Meanwhile Elizabeth Warren has dropped to fourth--in New Hampshire. Why is she dropping but her challengers are all going up? That is not good news for her. Democrats are catching on that she is a grifter and liar.

Who Was Thomas Cook? 🇬🇧

A sad way to go out after 178 years.

Thomas Cook collapsed and is out of business. Hundreds of thousands of travelers are stranded. But who was Thomas Cook?

Thomas Cook started organizing railway excursions in 1845. He started out as a Baptist Missionary getting people to a temperance meeting by rail--but that turned into the birth of modern tourism. A long legacy--but unfortunately the company took on too much debt in recent years and could not satisfy its creditors. Sad.

Update: Thomas Cook Fat Cats Took Bonuses prior to going under?  Pretty sleazy. Stuff like that can open you up potentially for individual liability if there is fraud shown (at least in the US). I am going to guess it is similar in the UK.

Evan "Egg McMuffin" McMullin is a sad pathetic joke...

In full disclosure, I got booted from RedState for the temerity of mocking Evan McMullin (this is the post that triggered two losers over there). Now RedState is back defending Evan McMullin again, saying his critics are the ones who have problems.

Evan McMullin is a fraud. McMullin wracked up hundreds of thousands in campaign debt on his Quoitic quest, which I believe he has not paid it back. But I have to agree with Caleb Howe, McMullin certainly did not cause Ed Gillespie to lose in Virginia last night. Evan McMullin is too pathetic to have such an impact.

McMullin calling Ed Gillespie a racist?  Yeah, people called BS on that. McMullin of course has no shame. McMullin is a deadbeat and a joke. He is less credible than David Frum.

Now I know Donald Trump has flaws. I get that. Trump Administration he has promoting changes that are conservative and are making a very positive difference. Trump for all his flaws is making real progress. Trump would be doing a lot more if GOP Congress was working with him.

Evan McMullin is not about fixing anything, just about sniping at Trump or anyone associated with Trump.  Maybe Evan should switch parties and be a Democrat?

Should Republicans make a modest proposal about outstanding student debt and college aid?

Here is Daniel Oliver at The Federalist's proposal:

(1) canceling all student loans owed to the federal government and paying off all loans owed to private institutions and (2) eliminating all federal aid, grants, support, etc. to postsecondary educational institutions.  It’s a package deal: no elimination of aid, no cancellation of debts.

Read the whole thing.

If you like wedge issues, is a very interesting proposal.  I could see Glenn Reynolds liking it.

As goes Wisconsin, so goes the nation...

Our nation turns its lonely eyes to you, woo woo woo...
In the end, math matters and as a general rule, the sooner you make your peace with arithmetic, the less it’s going to hurt. Moderate and mild reforms work pretty well if the reform process starts early enough; wait long enough, though, and the steps needed to get the finances straight become savage and painful. Ask the Greeks. Or ask the citizens — and the municipal employees — of California’s bankrupt cities.
