Sackett v. EPA: U.S. Supreme Court sides with Idaho Property Owners

Curtailing the powers of the EPA is a good thing.

This is a good result.

The court ruled unanimously in favor of the Idaho couple, Michael and Chantell Sackett, that brought the case, but split 5-4 in its reasoning. Joining Alito's majority opinion were Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett. Justices Brett Kavanaugh, Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson concurred in the judgment.

Pruitt was an idiot over most of his scandals (which were self inflicted errors). I liked what he was doing at the EPA and I know many of the accusations were over blown by the Democrats and hostile media, but a lot of this was avoidable. I wish he could have accomplished more, but he was his own worst enemy. I am hopeful they find a better replacement.

Hot Air: Bannon says opposition party got a scalp. That's true, but Pruitt made it easy.

I'm glad to see that the EPA is going to recycle a lower-status administrator into the top position.

Anyone who has spent some time around State Department personnel knows, many of them (not all) are despicable lefty lifers who are contemptuous to American values and interests. They think they are above mere politicians, let alone American citizens. Do you want to guess which ones are leaving the State Department over Rex Tillerson and Donald Trump?

Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out! I doubt there is a lot of courage in this decision. They are probably all eligible for retirement and going out to try to score consulting and lobbying gigs.

Wow. This is a big deal. The EPA is one of the most out of control rogue agencies out there and Scott Pruitt is the person to bring it back into line. I was hoping for Myron Ebell, but Scott Pruitt is great. Pruitt is a skeptic on climate change. I am pretty sure Trump did not discuss this with Al Gore the other day. Ouch.

Incompetent Democrats in Flint and Detroit are mostly to blame for Flint's water lead contamination problems...

Chick at Lem's Place links to a story that explains how Democrats in Flint's city government, Detroit and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality managed to poison a city...

This is a huge public health disaster. And we Americans like our big, bad disasters in black and white. We want to blame it on one bad guy and reward one good guy. We’re not real good at nuance and chains of events … especially if they clash with our political beliefs.
Every Democrat in the country is calling for Gov. Snyder’s head and blaming it on the Republican governor and his emergency financial manager law. And not only are they ignoring the guys in the black hats who actually caused the problem, they’re really ignoring the victims. Worse, they’re using them as a tool to gain a political advantage. And that’s even larger tragedy.
That’s not what Flint’s children need right now. People need to focus on them, and not on their hatred of all things Republican.

The Federalist and Dennis Sanders: Who caused this mess in the first place?

The main culprits in this mess are the City of Flint and Detroit, both which have been run by Democrats for decades. As for the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, the blame goes to it too (and its attempts to cover this up with the City of Flint and the Federal EPA).

Democrats like Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton and Michael Moore respond typically, blaming Michigan's Republican Governor (even though the Governor is not responsible for municipal water in Flint) for errors caused by Democrats in Flint, Detroit and the EPA.

Is Obama trying to kill the economy with new carbon restrictions…or is there something else going on?

JWF notes that it appears the WH is trying to derail the economy. For sure this will hurt the domestic coal industry and raise electric prices (at a minimum). Yet there are a few people who are going to make a lot of money on these carbon regulations--and they are mostly Obama supporters.

As Wombat notes, not all Obama supporters are going to benefit from this. With elections in play, Megan McArdle thinks the WH is blowing smoke over this, with rule making dragging pass November 2016. Oh well, you have to break a few eggs to make an Obam-lette.

The WH is increasingly desperate to change the narrative from its failures.

Federal thugs wear down marine biologist Nancy Black and make her plea guilty...

Nancy Black's legal nightmare is finally over: So they got her to cry, plead guilty, ruined her career, and get sentenced to three years probation and a $12,500 fine.

I wonder how many hundreds of thousands of dollars this prosecution cost us tax payers?

I do not have a problem with bans on feeding whales. I do have a problem with feds over charging (this should have been a civil fine from the start). Remember they were seriously threatening her with many years in prison. SeaWorld, however, is doing just fine. The feds, like most bullies, tend to avoid battles with big entities, but love to take down the "little people."
