Roger Ailes's Threesome Movie

I am not justifying what Roger Ailes is alleged to have done (although to be fair, he is not here to defend himself and he had women who defended him at Fox News). I do note that Hollywood is certainly not focusing on Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, Charlie Rose, Matt Lauer, or any sex scandals involving left leaning celebrities. I am going to guess Hollywood will dodge the NXIUM sex scandal too. There is clearly a double standard when it comes to sensationalizing this stuff.

Of course, the lefty media and her new co-workers trashed Megyn Kelly after she made her switch to NBC. They are probably not addressing that in this movie either.

EBL: Killing O'Reilly

James Murdoch wants to follow the CNN model, assuming its current followers will go along for the ride. Roger Ailes recognized the opportunity of being center right (Despite the wailing of the left, Fox News was never hard right). Why you would change a news model that has been so successful is mind boggling, but there is a reason there is the phrase: “Shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations.” In Japan, the expression goes, “Rice paddies to rice paddies in three generations.” The Scottish say “The father buys, the son builds, the grandchild sells, and his son begs.” In China, “Wealth never survives three generations.”

I am not particularly a Bill O'Reilly fan (I have to agree with Stacy McCain on this). I am not defending the accusations against O'Reilly, the full extent they are true I do not know. O'Reilly was never really a conservative, more of a populist Republican really, but he did remind me of people I knew growing up (he had that going for him). I doubt Bill O'Reilly leaving will in itself fundamentally change Fox. But it is a symptom of things to come and I think we will see a major shift at Fox News well beyond O'Reilly (and it probably won't be good).

So Megyn Kelly missed her opportunity to steer the new course (she should have taken the money and stayed put). Will Tucker Carlson stay to the right or shift with with new management? That remains to be seen and a lot of it will depend on ratings and what the Murdoch wives think of him.

The hypocrisy of the left when it comes to shenanigans on its side really knows no bounds...

Megyn Kelly: THIS IS CNN?

I suspect Ms. Kelly might find she does not do as quite as well at CNN. While I know Fox News is going to suck anyway now that Roger Ailes is gone, I wouldn't mind seeing my theory tested. From my perspective it is a win win, since you know who will absolutely hate Kelly being at CNN....and it aint Bill O'Reilly.

Why can't CNN match Fox's $20,000,000 offer? Because CNN has other talent that would bolt (or want their salary raised) if Megyn Kelly came in at that price. Yeah, Bill O'Reilly and Megyn Kelly hate each other...but her nemisis Ailes is gone and she has the Murdoch Boys backing her. So I doubt it is going to happen, but you never know.

Can you put these two divas in the same room? Cat Fight at CNN?

Did Roger Ailes Help Donald Trump Change His Tone?

Trump has definitely changed his tone: Really reaching out to African Americans on economic and law and order arguments. Trump is giving some great speeches. Yes, the pro-Clinton media are alternatively ignoring or mischaracterizing them, but this is still a very welcomed change. And what is even more surprising (for Trump) admitting he regrets some of the things he has said in the past.

I assumed part of this was on advice from Kellyanne Conway, only because I have heard her say many of the same things Trump is saying now. While having charitably might be called a mixed reputation with some of his former associates, Steve Bannon is capable of nuance (I have heard him do so on Sirius), but recent Trump doesn't sound like Bannon.

Jonah Goldberg may be right about Roger Ailes. I did not immediately get the Oogway reference, but Oogway was the tortoise master sensei in Kung Fu Panda.

Ailes is sort of like Oogway.

And for the debates and upcoming media exchanges, Ailes's advice could prove invaluable:

Ailes understands, better than most, that debates usually are won or lost not in the sometimes tedious back and forth, but in a single dramatic moment.

Most memorably, right before the Iowa caucuses, he prepped the elder Bush for an epic confrontation on live network television with Dan Rather, who’d decided to devote most of his CBS Evening News broadcast to a scorching interrogation of the vice president concerning his involvement in the Iran contra scandal.

The Reagan administration secretly sold weapons to the mullahs in exchange for the release of American hostages—a violation of U.S. policy—and illegally diverted the proceeds to anti-Sandinista fighters in Nicaragua.

“This is a political assassination about to happen,” Ailes warned Bush as the Rather broadcast approached, and then supplied his client with the killer line.

“It’s not fair to judge my whole career by a rehash on Iran,” Bush scolded Rather at the climactic moment. “How would you like it if I judged your career by those seven minutes when you walked off the set in New York? Would [you] like that?”

I also concur with Goldberg, forget about trying to persuade #NeverTrumpers, there are not that many of them and it's not worth the effort. Trump has to peel off at least some of Hillary's assumed support (doing better than anticipated with minorities and women) and get a sufficient number of independent voters in the middle to go for him or he will lose.

Some of my friends think Trump is winning right now. That's not true, he really is behind. While there is still time for Trump to turn things around, it really was not a good month following the Democrat Convention.

For someone like me who wants to see Hillary Clinton defeated, such happy talk from Trump supporters about Trump winning drives me nuts. That sort of self delusion is the road to defeat. I recognize what they fear the alternative of depressing the vote, and that is a legitimate concern, but if you are in the last quarter and one or two possessions down you better wake up to reality and time management.

Alternately, a few will claim Trump is really ahead but the Democrats will use voter fraud to steal it from him. While the Democrats and Crooked Hillary are certainly likely to engage in all sorts of electoral shenanigans which could be a deciding factor in close swing states, as Hugh Hewitt said: if it's not close, they can't cheat. Even if that assumption is true, you must assume Trump has to win by a sufficient margin to over come that threat.

As Sun Tzu said:

If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.

The good news for Trump supporters and those of us who are #NeverHillary, Trump has already started making changes to turn that around. While these speeches will take a while to move the needle in the polls, they are excellent preparation for Trump going in to the debates with Clinton.

It was obvious Team Trump had a problem immediately following the conventions. The Kahn exchange hurt Trump (and the media ignored Clinton's poor treatment of the Benghazi families). Still, there were a series of media blunders/hit jobs (actually a combination of both), one after another, that did not help Trump.

All Hillary Clinton does is run ads suggesting Trump lacks the temperament to be President of the United States. Of course, the same could be said about Hillary Clinton, but Trump was busy responding to brush fires set by his own rhetoric (and a dishonest biased media).

Some suggest that nothing matters till Labor Day. But Kerry was destroyed in July August by the Swift Boaters and Romney was destroyed in August by Obama's media onslaught of lies (Romney lived too clean cut a life to have any actual scandals). August does matter. This August (at least so far) has not been a good month for Trump. I concurred with John Nolte's advice for Team Trump. Things were looking really bad. But August is not over yet...

In the last few weeks, Trump has given three very solid speeches: Last Night's Law and Order Speech in West Bend, Wisconsin (with Trump doing a solid effort on black outreach), Foreign Policy Speech in Youngstown, Ohio and an Economics Speech in Detroit, Michigan.

We all know that the mainstream media is generally hostile to Trump. It is not just Trump they are crushing, any criticism of Hillary is being squashed.

While I know few other than political junkies like myself will sit through speeches like this, Trump needs to give voters a reason to vote for him (other than Crooked Hillary is an evil witch). Basically I wanted to hear the candidate tell us why Trump Administration is a better option for the country than a Clinton Administration. David Horowitz liked the Wisconsin one (a lot). I liked them all.

So who was behind those speeches? Was that Bannon? Manafort? I assume we will find that out eventually.

I did not think that taco bowl tweet so offensive (I still can't figure out why the Marla Maples stuff on Trump's desk). Actually it is sort of funny. But the key to making it work is Trump capitalizing on it with Latino voters with a dialog of why Trump would be better for citizen working class Latinos (something I have not seen a lot of). That is why I welcome Trump reaching out to minorities with substantive issues like I heard yesterday.

The LA Times poll does suggest Trump's support with Latinos is slightly better than Romney's and may be 14% with blacks. Is that true? Those would be amazing numbers for Trump, if correct. Other data I have seen show Trump's support with both Latinos and blacks to be abysmal. Although polls showing zero percentage support for Trump seems suspect too. I think Trump, with an economic substantive jobs message, can do better than many think with working class voters of all races.
