Dianne Feinstein, RIP

TOM: De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum So who will Newsom appoint to take her place?

Dianne Feinstein died on September 28, but still voted in the Senate! How did that work?

She should have not stayed in the Senate all this time (that is on her family). May she have rest now.

Battle of the Midterms

Brett Kavanaugh and Lindsey Graham were both impressive yesterday. Kavanaugh will almost certainly get 11 Republican votes from the Senate Committee today (supporting a recommendation for a full confirmation vote in the Senate). Kavanaugh's confirmation vote could be as early as tomorrow (probably no later than Monday or Tuesday).

If rumors are true, the votes are there for confirming Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Jeff Flake said he would vote for him (although as an update there are hints he might be backing out--but the vote just happened and it is going to the floor, although Flake said he will not vote for Kavanaugh on the floor if there is not more FBI investigation). While it is not confirmed, I suspect Collins and Murkowski will too (although there is pressure on them to reverse  and they may agree with Flake with some delay). Democrat Joe Manchin has said he would vote for Kavanaugh. While you can be sure they will pull out all stops they can over the next several days to try to derail this (and there may be delay given what Flake just did), I am cautiously optimistic Kavanaugh will ultimately be confirmed to the Supreme Court.

Democrats played games with Christine Blasey Ford's accusation, sitting on it until after the Senate advise and consent hearings were over. Dianne Feinstein was mostly to blame for that, creating a media storm with the obvious intent of derailing Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation and to potentially hold the seat open for two years until after the 2020 election (payback for Merrick Garland).

If Dianne Feinstein had brought this letter forward when she got it (and she could have done so in a confidential manner) it could have been dealt with back in July and August without all this rancor and partisanship. She and the Democrats did not want that, they wanted to make political hay out of it.

The hypocrisy of the Democrats was obvious. Media assclowns like Creepy Porn Lawyer Michael Avenatti helped weaken Ford's position by their over the top specious attacks on Kavanaugh. Don't kid your self, however, most Democrats are going to get very fired up over this. Republicans cannot let off on this.

Senator Donnelly (D-IN) just confirmed he is voting no on Kavanaugh. Donnelly is up for re-election in 2018 and that race is essentially tied  with his Republican opponent Mike Braun. If you can donate to Mike Braun do so. If you live in Indiana, make sure to vote for Republican Mike Braun for Senate.

We are in for a big fight. If Kavanaugh gets confirmed, Democrats will try to impeach him if they take the House. The Democrats will run on Christine Blasey Ford. While there were significant gaps of memory and inconsistencies with her story, she came off as credible to most people (at least in terms of being a victim of sexual assault). While I am positive it was not Brett Kavanaugh, the media and Democrats will run saying it was.

Republicans were in a bind. They could not delay given the games and dirty tricks of the Democrats.  The GOP base would have revolted. But the argument for FBI investigation that the Democrats will run with with play with some voters. Sexual harassment and assault is a very emotionally charged issue and dangerous politically.

If the Democrats take the House and Senate in 2018 Election, the agenda will be 100% attacking Trump, Kavanaugh and the Republicans. The Media is overwhelmingly partisan and supporting Democrats. Lindsey Graham was right about what he said about Democrats yesterday and their thirst for power. You have to get out there and vote. You have to support GOP candidates.

Update:

This Flake proposal for a one week limited (both in time and scope) FBI investigation is dangerous, but also gives GOP cover in the mid-terms. Regardless of your thoughts about Flake, the GOP needs at least two of Manchin, Collins, and Murkowski (if they don't have Flake). Washington Examiner gives Mitch McConnell's three options (option to is agree to the one week delay).

Volokh Conspiracy:  A Way Out Of The Kavanaugh Debacle. I would think if presented by Democrats in a timely and good faith manner this could have happened (in theory), but there is zero chance the Democrats would ever agree to such a thing. They don't care about the truth, they equally want to destroy any GOP nominee.  They want fill that seat with someone they want.  Interesting thought experiment, but completely implausible.

Democrat Party Sleaze Merchants

TOMAce, and Powerline are right, this is especially sleazy on the part of Democrats

One of the theories behind this desperate tactic is the Democrats are trying to give cover to red state Democrats up for re-election this year.  A smoke screen a remote, unsubstantiated accusation at least gives them a plausible reason to their voters not to give a "yes" to Kavanaugh. I hope it backfires on them.

Why aren't Democrat nominees subject to nonsense like this? I don't mean the completely dishonest tactics and gamesmanship of Dianne Feinstein, that is just wrong, but I mean having their entire life history torn apart? If the Democrats want to go down this path, let's go there. There is some rationale in not making politics so personal. Democrats are especially good, however, in picking nominees that hold a very tight progressive line and don't waiver from it.

Dianne Feinstein Admits: No Law Would Have Stopped Las Vegas Shooter...

It is refreshing that Dianne Feinstein is admitting this (even though she does want to go pass a "law" anyway just to show she did something). The Las Vegas shooter was a methodical, careful cold blooded killer. While we still do not know what his motivation was, obeying the law was not a consideration for him. While he legally obtained his firearms (at least we assume he did), he obviously planned this out long in advance.  His planning and execution of this attack was completely illegal.  No law would have deterred him.

I would also strongly suggest going to Sixty Minutes and seeing the interview of the police officers who stormed the shooter's hotel room. I am amazed they managed to do so in 12 minutes from when the shooting started. Kudos to the hero unarmed security guard Jesus Campos, who likely deterred the shooter from carrying out more mayhem, and while shot himself stayed until the officers arrived.

Question to Obama, Pelosi and Feinstein and the rest of the Democrats on Gun Control

Dianne Feinstein, Democrat poser

If gun control is so important, why didn't Democrats pass gun control legislation when they controlled the White House, House and Senate (with a Filibuster proof majority)?
🤔🔫🥆
Nancy Pelosi gave this explanation: “Looking at the calendar, there was very little time to get something like that done.”

With all the media and leftist celebrity ranting over the NRA and Republicans, why aren't they holding Democrats accountable? Why no outrage over that?

Gabe Malor cautions us not to believe everything Diane Feinstein is claiming about the CIA

It is easy to get sucked into this given it is the CIA under the control of the Obama White House and Democrat Dianne Feinstein going at it. In fact, however, don't believe most of it…

Dianne Feinstein, playing politics with the truth.

You can dispute whether or not "enhanced interrogation" was a good or bad thing, but the politicizing of this by Dianne Feinstein and the Obama White House is both hypocritical and dangerous.  This debate is not being conducted in good faith. The Obama White House would love to debate the merits of water boarding and sleep deprivation of al Qaeda terrorists under the Bush Administration and ignore the hundreds of thousands slain in Syria, the collapse of Libya and Iraq, the abandonment of the Kurds and the Ukrainians, all under Obama's watch.

Update:
