I like Mellissa Etheridge, but she is wrong. Matthew Shepard died because he was hanging out and involved with murderous drug dealers, not because he was an innocent martyr to the gay cause. I am sorry he died, but he is hardly a saint or martyr. Shepard was the gay male equivalent of the missing white woman story. 

I did a post on Che Guevara yesterday. Che is still embraced by the left and more than a few Democrats, but he used the wrong pronouns and often engaged in microaggressions, such as shooting suspected homosexuals in the head.

Why Is Matthew Shepard Still The Patron Saint of Homosexuals?

The myth prevails, because many on the left wants it to prevail...

Matthew Shepard died in a drug deal gone bad. His murderer was gay too.  

But hey, don't let pesky things like facts get in the way of a emotionally charged martyr for the cause.

Credit for the leftist independent Stranger to follow up on this. This has been reported before (credit to the Guardian too), but is consistently ignored by most of the media. They do not want to go there. Dead Matthew Shepard is so much more valuable to them as a martyr for homosexuality (rather than a sad statistic of why you should not get involved in the drug trade). 

Interning his ashes in the National Cathedral? Really? And his "papers" to the Smithsonian? So is he the patron saint of homosexuals or meth dealers?  I don't condone his pistol whipping and subsequent death. I also don't condone selling methamphetamine.

NY Post: The Uncomfortable Truth in Matthew Shepard's Death

On October 6, 1998, Matthew Shepard was left beaten on a fence, to die. He did die on October 12, 1998. It was presented as a vicious hate crime because of homophobic rural Wyoming. Matthew Shepard was a symbol of the hate that gays faced in America.  

That was not, however, the true story. Matthew Shepard was killed in a drug related dispute, not over him being gay. Still, Matthew Shepard is more valuable as a legendary martyr than another victim of illegal drug culture. If you try to say the truth, you are guilty of trutherism. Or as was once said about the media and the west:  

This is why terms and especially legal provisions of "hate crimes" are so problematic. If you are on the receiving end of a pistol whipping that ultimately kills you, it's pretty hateful. In this particular case Matthew Shepard was not killed because he was homosexual, he was killed over a drug deal gone bad. I am not trying to explain away his death because of the circumstances, he did not deserve to die. It is a lie to say if Wyoming was more gay friendly, Matt would have lived.  

The guilty should be appropriately punished for their actual criminal acts. The murderer of Matthew Shepard got two life terms, no possibility of parole. 

In a side note: Matthew Shepard's mother opposed Jeff Sessions as AG because of his opposition to hate crimes legislation. I am upset with Sessions because he is for civil asset forfeiture.

Anyone who followed this story knew that Matthew Shepard was hardly the saint he was portrayed to be.  His death was motivated by a methamphetamine drug deal gone bad, not him being homosexual.  But further research is even more revealing...

Matthew Shepard's murderer was his gay lover?  

Less homophobia and more like the finale of Breaking Bad.
ABC breaks this story, but if a Republican repeats it, then the Republican is savaged...
