The knockout game is not new. It has been around for decades.
Commentator PW responded well:

But anger over slavery justifies young men punching elderly women? To say this is all due to the legacy of slavery or Jim Crow misses the point (and the real cause of the problem). Why aren't Democrats and black leaders in the communities where it is happening speaking out against this and condemning it? Especially given this thuggish behavior causes most of the harm in the black community.
As for the root cause, again imhao only, for some of these kids acting like this (which is pretty much beyond the realm of civilized society):
We have raised a generation or two of parents who can't parent -- negligence and abuse do crop up, absenteeism crops up even more, and then there's the phenomenon of parents who want to be their kids' friends; none of this is race specific, and none of it contributes to children who act civil. And because the parents are incapable, that leaves society on the hook.
BUT, but....
One of the biggest things that I personally have seen is, that we have taken away all personal control of their households away from these parents. A lot of them are on some sort of aid due to poverty; that means visits from the social worker (because of course poor people are too inept and lacking somehow to be good parents). Visits from the social are viewed with more fear and trepidation than a visit from the cops -- because the social worker can, in the blink of an eye cause a parent to lose a kid or all manner of other life wrecking things. The parents (or parent, because we've also punished poor people for trying to keep intact families) can be punished for trying to take control of their kids (and at a very young age the kids learn this; I've seen plenty of them tell the adults off "you can't spank/do anything to me; I'll tell the social worker", and it has effect). So, by the time these kids are in their teens, if not earlier, the parents have by and large tossed up their hands -- I can't say as though I blame them, they are damned if they do and damned if they don't.
And then you get out of control, crazy animal acting kids, and no, it isn't race specific, but society will be meeting with them and not in a good way.
This group is the largest group that I got to see in my dealings with juveniles -- it isn't that they are bad parents, but they are parents with their hands tied behind their backs (and their feet shackled, and possibly tied down to a chair).
So there's my theory: we've developed some parents who can't parent, because they don't know how and/or they have not been given the freedom within their own homes/families to do so.
Fix that, I think a lot of these problems would lessen by quite a bit (but the reaction has been in the exact opposite of anyone doing that).

Really, you laugh at this? The problem is who are the real victims of not speaking out against crime and criminal behavior?
From 1980 through 2008, 93 percent of black victims were killed by blacks.It is nothing to laugh about.

Separated at Birth: Ann Althouse and ...?
This is a bit of insider blogosphere baseball, so if you aren't into it, that is perfectly okay. But to my friends over at Trooper York's place this one is for you.
There is a bit of a shake up going on at Althouse right now. Ann had a small dust up with Dr. Helen and Glenn Reynolds (who of course has been one of Ann's biggest supporters over the years). Glenn's response seemed pretty mild and courteous: Ann is a thoughtful and open-minded and smart woman, but at some level I feel like she doesn’t really get it. Actually that is very generous by Glenn Reynolds. When some of her commentators pointed this out, however, panic set in over at Meadhouse. In a Charles Johnson like move, Ann and Meade have shut down comments completely (at least temporarily) and are banning many of their long term commentators.
Now I occasionally comment here about an Ann Althouse post, but I rarely comment on the posts directly. I also rarely read the comments there so I do not know what is going on (nor do I care for the most part).
But then I got recently tipped off that Meade was accusing an old Althouse commentator Fred4Pres of being some troll commentator "President MomJeans." I have no idea who Mom Jeans is (and I have been told that commentator also posts as some offensive troll "Whore of the Internet")[I have been told that is incorrect], but I know neither are Fred4Pres. So what prompted Meade's accusation? Damn if I know. Fred4Pres has not commented over at Althouse for almost two years.
But given Meade's July 5, 2013 post, Fred4Pres returned and commented over there in response. Before Meade goes and purges them all here are some screen captures:
No apology was forthcoming to Fred4Pres from Meade. And I know there is no evidence to support any of Meade's accusations about Fred4Pres being MomJeans (it must have been some speculation on his part, which he was wrong about). But that is how Meade operates, rather than just apologize for a mistake he escalates things and make them far worse.
EBL has nothing to do with MomJeans or any other sock puppet trolls on Althouse. If I am going to criticize Ann and Meade, I can do it right here. And I admit, I have teased her in the past:
For the life of me, I do not understand the over reaction over there, but she and Meade should seriously leave me out of it. And leave Fred4Pres out of it too.

Meanwhile Ann suggest this story is a metaphor. She is right, Ann and Meade are the tigers (well more neutered Wisconsin house cats than tigers), spinning around the tree until they turn into butter. As for the valuable heartwood, that is what the commentators used to create. Until she drove them away.

Christopher Hitchens on free speech
Ann Althouse posted this today. It will get a rise out of some of her commentators, but it is a very good clip of Christopher Hitchens addressing the fundamentals of why free speech is so important. People do need to be prepared to defend their positions. And I have seen some abysmal comments in regards to free speech in the last week. I miss having Christopher Hitchens with us and can only imagine what his response would have been.
Happy Birthday U.S. Constitution.

So what? If even that were true and those people believed that America was the producer of such nonsensical garbage, then it would still be protected speech. It doesn't matter that content or context of the film, it is speech, it is was made by an American Democrat of Egyptian descent and he has the right to make it. Why is this a problem? The real problem you should be addressing is the absolutely chilling methodology by which Urkel set out his agents to bring this guy in for questioning. The fact that it happened in the middle of the night or that it occurred in front of camera for all of us to see doesn't bother you at all?

The Master set to open this fall...
I know Crack Emcee will have a lot to say about this one...(and he is already on it). I do not share his disdain for Mitt Romney's Mormon faith (and I do not consider it equivalent to Scientology). But I am looking forward to this film.
