Crocus sativus: Saffron

It does look like a typical spring crocus, but I have noticed it is slightly less robust than the spring variety. That might be do to climate more than anything else. Make sure if you are harvesting the stamens you are using the correct species of crocus (there are poisonous varieties). Real saffron has three stamens per flower.
