Good intentioned aid projects drilled wells in Senegal. That lead to native people increasing their herds of live stock and over grazing and resulting habitat destruction. The ultimate victims were wildlife, including the ostriches.

This is just horrible news. They were trying to move these black rhinoceroses to a safe location in Kenya and eight of them died shortly after arriving. It may be related to high salinity in the water.
