Oscars: Update: Will Smith decides to make The Academy Awards Great Again 😬

 


These Oscars are ok...but I do not care anymore about those other Oscars. 


What a💩 show


I still care about some movies (even though the line between film and other forms of entertainment are completely blurred and the traditional movie industry is mostly doomed). I thought Belfast, King Richard, Dune, The Tragedy of Macbeth and CODA were all excellent. They are very different films and shows, but all good in their own ways. I strongly recommend them all. I also liked the short Please Hold and even The Dress. 

Update:  Glad CODA won Best Picture. It was a very good. 

I watched Drive My Car. I did not hate it, but did not get that into it (even the sex scenes were pretty flat and the film overall would have benefited by some editing). 

West Side Story had some good performances and the production values were high. It could have been a very good film, but Speilberg went over the woke line and ruined it for me. 

Tragedy of the Dog was boring, but if unrequited gay love in a fake Western setting (New Zealand) is your thing...that film is for you. Hollywood will probably pick that one. Jane Campion made her awkward comment about the Williams sisters, but whether it kaboshes her chances remain to be seen. The film should not win though, because it is not that good. 


Even Oscar Wilde would have been bored by The Power of the Dog

Don't Look Up was unintentionally funny (certainly not in the way they intended). I have no idea what Licorice Pizza is, maybe it is ok. 

Nighmare Alley was unremarkable and you should see the 1947 original. The ending though is a good allegory for Hollywood and the "industry." 

The Eyes of Tammy Faye is up for something. I did not care for it.  

I went and checked out Free Guy tonight. It was really good!

The beginning of the end, politiziing the Oscars was a mistake. Any glamour, fantasy, and fun in this event is long gone. Now it is just a tedious leftist industry mastrabatory fest.
