I don't know all the facts on this case yet, but this looks very bad for the police officers involved. The Eric Gardner comparisons are unavoidable. I am going to guess (unless there is something else not disclosed yet) that criminal charges will follow for some of these officers. 

Was it racism? Other than the suspect being black and the cops being white and Asian*, it is hard to say without more. Cops do tend to use force (not necessarily proportionate force) when you resist arrest.  * Actually the cops involved are a mix of White, Black, and Asian.

Kind of an unimportant, tangential question: has anyone produced any evidence yet that George Floyd’s killing was racially motivated in any way?

I mean, if we’re going to set race relations back 60 years, it’d be cool to know if there’s a proximate reason to do so.
