EBL: Westworld Season 2
Season 1 had some flaws (and fans pretty much figured it out long before the season finale), but overall HBO's Westworld was a smart science fiction adaption and update of the original Michael Crichton film on the moral and social implications of AI. Season 2 premiers tonight and I am hopeful it will be better.
Expect a lot of carnage, but Season 2 won't be going to Roman and Medieval World (too bad). I still want a Game of Thrones crossover (which was suggested by none other than GRRM).

"Season 1 had some flaws..." And the Titanic took on a little water. I watched with great anticipation, and DVR'd the entire season, and when it got to the end, there wasn't a single episode I wanted to see again to catch any 'nuance' I might have missed.
ReplyDeleteThe original movie, with all its limitations was more exciting. I'll watch tonight, but with low expectations.
I agree the original movie was better in terms of pacing and story telling. The show was very stylized, high production, but damn if it didn't drag in the middle. But things started to pick up in the later shows, especially Maeve's character. It started weak, floundered in the middle, and ended...well not strong but better.
DeleteNow I had very low expectations with the TV show from the start. I went in not expecting a lot. The concept of an elite sex murder adult park the size of a Northeast state didn't seem to "pencil" as a business model (why wouldn't this be all virtual reality). But in terms of getting to issue on consciousness and AI, I thought the show was way more successful than other failed attempts (such as A.I., I, Robot, etc.).
Another remake with more and more and more "kick-ass girls" Ninja snarling.
ReplyDeleteNo.
The world of fiction and entertainment is polluted with check-list diversity requirements. Every cast must include...one of everything. "Storytelling be DAMNED; diversity is our STRENGTH".
Oh. Ok.
I concur with you on the current "formula" out of Hollywood, but I actually like the characters in the new WW. It is what saved the show last season.
