I'll probably watch it, but I found the first season very disappointing.
ReplyDeleteI liked it but I had to suspend belief. The idea of some fantasy park the size of a small state seemed goofy. Even at the supposed $45,000 a day rate (I remembered that discussed in the show) there is no way that would come close at covering operating costs. As a virtual reality/AI world--now that makes a lot more sense. But it is harder to get the viewers in on the "violent delights have violent ends" fantasy of the place.
DeleteBut as the emergent AI theme, I was aboard for the ride, even if WW is possibly more stupid than The Terminator (although not quite as dumb as the Matrix). But like the later, Westwood is great on style (even better in fact). And like good buttercream frosting on a cupcake, that goes a long way.
There was a bit of a lot twist in that the Ed Harris character was going through the park at a different time than his younger self, and some of the staff are robots but don't know it... but overall, it took a very long time to get there and the scenes with full frontal nudity (male and female alike) was so clinical as to lose all its sex appeal.
DeleteI liked the movie better.
Yes, it was ok first episode, then dragged, but ended strong at the end of season one.
