Last Minute Scandal Attack: Maybe Roy Moore should change his name to Robert Menendez and switch to the Democrat Party? Update: Questions about Moore's accusers...

Update:

Powerline: Court documents raise questions about Corfman's account

Legal Insurrection: If Roy Moore wins, thank Gloria Allred and Al Franken

Judge Moore's response:
"The Judge has been married to Kayla for nearly 33 years, has 4 children, and 5 grandchildren. He has been a candidate in four hotly-contested statewide political contests, twice as a gubernatorial candidate and twice as a candidate for chief justice. He has been a three-time candidate for local office, and he has been a national figure in two ground-breaking, judicial fights over religious liberty and traditional marriage. After over 40 years of public service, if any of these allegations were true, they would have been made public long before now.
I am not particularly surprised that a last minute attack would come out against Roy Moore, but it does show the double standard between allegations that are forty years old and never raised in public before (against a Republican) and an on going fraud sex scandal trial going on against a sitting U.S. Senator (who is a Democrat). It is not just sex scandals, Democrat Debbie Wasserman Shultz's involvement in the Pakistan hack of congress is getting ignored by the media too.

Is it possible this is true, sure, it is possible. But Roy Moore is the type of politician who is despised by the left and would bring out allegations like this far sooner than this. I am very skeptical about this sort of thing now. But never let the GOPe fall over itself in trying to throw a Republican they don't like under the bus. Of course Moore should step aside if the allegations are true, but as the media grills all Republicans why isn't there similar grilling of Democrats about Bob Mendendez or other misbehaving Democrats?

National Reivew, along with  Jonah Goldberg and David French want Moore to go. I am not sure why they consider these almost 40 year old charges credible. On what basis? Again, if Moore did what he is alleged to have done with a 14 yer old, then he should withdraw. But what if this story is ginned up by the Washington Post to de-rail his candidacy? Isn't that serious too? Why is this story coming out now and who is really behind it?

  1. If I was in Alabama, I wouldn't be swayed. Kudos to my Senators Cruz and Cornyn on not playing along. I even need to give special credit for Cornyn for speaking out and saying he's not going to assume guilt based on this.

Also, the allegations seemly oddly weak. He got to first base with a 17 year old, and that's it? No mention of molestation or gropping, just kissing? She was old enough to consent. If he's some sort of pedophile pervert praying on young girls; he sure seemed to behave himself. Frankly, if the allegations are true, McConnell still over reacted. Nothing alleged seems illegal for Alabama or Federal law.

    1. The allegation that is bad is the 14 year old, but it sounds weird it was never raised before now. Roy Moore has been around a long time and hated by the left. So why now?

  2. Yeah, I didn't click through to read the whole bit about the 14 year old. Only caught the comment that he asked to date her when she was 16. Made it sound like he met her, complimented her, and said come back in a couple of years. Clicking through, that story would be illegal if true. And not necessarily weird that it wouldn't come out until later, except for all the previous times it could have come out.

I read over at Legal Insurrection somebody saying, "but but this time he's running for a federal gig thus more scrutiny". Yeah sure, but I have a college buddy whose wife ran for a school board position in a rural community, and her opponent claimed she had an extra marital affair, which wasn't true. I still wouldn't be swayed in my vote. There's plenty of recourse if better evidence comes out after the election.

  3. The accusations are simply not credible. The biz about this being federal gig is a buffoonish and gives no more credibility than not saying it. There was plenty of opportunity to bring these things up in the past, when there could have been far more traction. The timing is simply too convenient.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised that the GOPe was responsible for this.

  4. Listening to Rush's monologue. I almost wrote as a too cute by half quip Carville's "drag a dollar through a trailer park" as a statement to this story. I thought it a bit too offensive. But Rush is using the story to point out the hypocrisy in demanding Moore step aside, compared to how Democrats handle such stories.

This reminds me of a year ago when someone (a Canadian) wanted to understand how I could vote for Trump with his comments about woman. She didn't like that I considered Trump's comments to be far less concerning than Hillary's actions in regards to her husband. If I lived in Alabama and was asked about Moore; I'd simply say when Democrats demand Menendez step down, get back to me.

  5. Glad I missed Hannity, always. However for Moore, I doubt enough others did.

    Listen to this advice.
