There is a lot of criticism of Israel holding off its full scale invasion of Gaza. But as CDR Salamander suggests, why give them the war they want? Hamas embraces martyrdom--at least for those under its control (the main Hamas leadership in Qatar and Turkey not so much). Take out the leaders.

Israel is going to go into Gaza, at a minimum to secure the perimeter border and hopefully to destroy the tunnels between Gaza and Egypt. Israel also has to destroy missile batteries in Gaza. But does it really want to go house to house, with all the traps and carnage that will entail?  

This is a game changer. Short of depopulating Gaza (which Israel does not have the stomach for)--the goal is to neutralize the threat from Gaza (and send a message to Palestinians on the West Bank). And a bit part of this is taking out Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iranian terrorist leadership every chance they get. It will be like battling a cancer.   

This is not Obama capitulation that CDR is suggesting, Gaza will still pay a painful price for this. The destruction there will be significant, but Israel has to play the long game on this. The World is Better Off Without Qassem Soleimani and many others need to join him in the afterlife.
