Guardians of the Galaxy 2: A Review

Rotten Tomatoes: Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Is Guardians of the Galaxy 2 as good as the first? Definitely not. Is it worth a ticket to go see--absolutely. The humor at times was a bit strained and doesn't hit its mark. It is a bit cheesy and predictable. The soundtrack this time around is over worked. The writing is not anyway near as crisp at Guardians 1. But over all, they managed to pull out a decent follow up movie. It is a popcorn movie. Enjoy it at that level.

  1. I loved - LOVED, GG1. GG2, not so much. It was a disappointment except for "Baby Groot".

    1. I went in assuming as a sequel to a very clever movie, odds were GG2 would suck. It did not suck, but it sure aint Godfather II.

  2. Like most movies; I'll wait for home viewing. BTW, finally watched La La Land. As a kid in HS, I used to usher at the local music hall and saw all sorts of musicals, including Lion King before it went to Broadway. La La Land had good moments, but I found the pacing slow, and too slow for a musical. It was refreshing in being a new story, as compared to say a new MCU release or GB3. But otherwise; I understand why initial release was small. Birdman was better.

    1. I concur with what you said, until you brought up Birdman. I like Michael Keaton, but I thought Birdman sucked.

La La Land reminded me of French late sixties musicals, more than the classic MGM ones. The pacing was off and it was flawed, but the framing of shots were good and the actors were very watchable. I had a good time seeking it in the movies (it does benefit from the big screen) but I watched it recently as a rental and it held up. I would give it a B+/A-.

  3. I thought Birdman was interesting, but I was being a bit cheeky about the comment. I thought the camera gimmick was interesting, and it kept the pacing going. However, the gimmick also hurt the story and the ending was simply ridiculous. Still, good performance by Emma Stone when playing opposite Edward Norton (a prick, but a damn good actor).
