The US 5th Army landed at Salerno in WWII, on the other side of the Sorrento peninsula (across the bay) and I worked with a guy who came from Pozzuoli, which is the birthplace of Sophia Loren (yeah, he knew her).
I do not know about this particular Autostrad, but the highways in Italy, while not to Autobahn standards, are actually better than you might think. The secondary road system, however, is generally dangerous but drivers adjust to that. I am not sure how Italy compares in automobile accidents to other European countries or the United States.
See Naples and die.
ReplyDeleteAlso not very far from Pompei and Herculeum.

DeleteIt is a beautiful location and Sophia Loren is a beautiful woman.
DeleteAwful what happened to those people. Just makes me glad I don't have to navigate such dangerous roadways like they do.
