Hercules cleaning the Augean stables

  1. EBL.

There's a concept in ethics, tied most closely to Kant, that one should only act on a principle if you could will it to be universal.

Imagine if everyone who comments at National Review Online was as persistent in pushing their blogs: you see an interesting post by Steyn or McCarthy with dozens of comments, you navigate to the comments and see nothing but one external link after another. It would be aggrevating EVEN IF the links were germane, and there would be an argument that the links weren't that much better than the advertising by spambots.

If you have something interesting to say, I would prefer you say it in the comments there rather than cajole readers to visit your blog.

    1. I am sorry if I offended you. NRO generally does not do images with its posts. The symbolism of the painting I think is obvious to the issue (and is germane). If the Supreme Court is not going to clean these stables, we will need to do it.

    2. Let me be absolutely clear: I'm not offended, I'm annoyed, and I'm willing to bet that I'm not the only person who comments at NRO who finds your insistence to link to this blog less than endearing.
