1945: The Savage Peace

After the surrender of the Nazis in 1945 there was a lot of payback, against Nazis and Ethnic Germans in Eastern Europe. There is no justification for the ethnic cleansing and murder of German civilians (most of who lived in these countries for centuries), but the Soviets (who occupied Eastern Europe) encouraged or turned a blind eye to it, when they weren't busy raping women and children. 

The US, Great Britain, and France were focused on their own respective sectors and countries. Worrying about Germans was pretty far down their list of priorities. 

Humans have a tendency to be savage (we just saw that last week with Hamas). The Germans mostly turned a bline eye themselves to Hitler's crimes before this. After the horrors of WWII, there was not a lot of sympathy for the Germans (especially in Eastern Europe). Worth watching, the documentary is on Amazon.
