The Clash: Spanish Bombs




A precursor to WWII. No clear good guys on this one. The Republicans were dominated by the Socialists and Communists. The Nationalists were the pre Catholic Church and General Franco. the fighting generally brutal. 

The Republicans were romanticizied by many on the left, but engaged in the Red Terror in areas they controlled. George Orwell, who was a Republican, became dissolusioned by Stalinists taking out the competition and taking over the movement.

Franco and the Nationalists prevailed. Yet Spain Nationalists, while friendly to the fascists who supported them during the Civil War, opted not to join the Nazis during WWII.
