Instapundit: Axing fitness requirements for female firefighters and Insane!
There are definitely roles women can play in firefighting and emergency response--but let's reality that fire fighting is generally a very physical job. It is geared mostly for very physically fit males.
That said, there are women who can definitely qualify. Don't lower the standards, encourage more women to acheive them. Ultimately though, you want the best candidates in order to save the lives of the public and other firefighters. More men than women will qualify.
Many males now a days would not make the cut. Especially those who sit on their butts playing video games.
