Is maple syrup appropriate for French toast? 🍁🤔🤷🏻‍♀️

 


Here is a suggestion: Find the best French toast recipe you can find (personally I am for using slightly stale egg bread like challah, brioche, or for a especially festive Christmas treat panettone) and seeing if it is better with or without syrup. The stale bread allows the toast to get crispier, which is always good. Brioche also has butter (challah doesn't), but if you are frying the bread in butter, I do not think it matters that much. Yes the liquid syrup can (if you drench it) take away from the crispy goodness of fried bread, but maple tastes better than confectionier's sugar dusting (at least to me).  There is really no right answer--what ever you prefer.
