We need to win and win big in 2024.
I am with Don Surber on this, I am a big Donald Trump fan. Trump (on policy) was exceptional as President. But if MAGA means anything, it has to be bigger than any one man. Trump's lashing out at DeSantis and Youngkin this week only diminished Trump. It made him look weak. It certainly did not make him appear to be a leader of the GOP.
Neither DeSantis or Youngkin warranted such an attack. DeSantis has been fighting the good fight, making Florida a red state, taking on the toxic woke policies at Disney (a risky thing to do in Florida--but he showed how to do it successfully), and persuading people in the middle and even the left by being an effective executive. What happened last Tuesday in Florida was great news for the GOP.
Youngkin is also working and bringing the good fight in bluish Virgina, and while a rising Republican star, is probably unlikely to be a presidential candidate in 2024. Trump managed to alienate Winsome Sears. Not good.
The midterms were very disappointing. I do not blame Donald Trump for all of that (there is plenty of blame to go around), but he did contribute with his endorsements in Pennsylvania. We all need to do some reflection on what went wrong and how not to let it happen next time.
Whether Kari Lake wins or loses in Arizona (I hope she will win) she is a rising star. Beyond Florida, we did also have a few positive things happen. Beto and Stacey Abrams losing were definitely positive developments. Brandon will continue to screw up the economy and at least the Dems can't really point them blame at the GOP (they will try, but that argument will be far less effective now).
And lest we not forget Liz Cheney got the boot (which is awesome). Egg McMuffin lost in Utah and also got called out for lying shamelessly afterwards (I am pretty sure McMullin will stiff his campaign creditors again too). Kelly Tshibaka is still currently leading Murky in Alaska (although Murky still has a chance with that rigged crooked ranking system she got through).
Hey, politics are what they are and the primaries are coming soon enough. Problem is President Trump opted to engage in these attacks just before the midterms and just after them, when we are fightin to save Hershel Walker. Really? Why? How does this infighting now help the cause? Wait till the Georgia runoff is finished at least.
Maybe then McConnell and McCarthy/Ryan would be a better target for Trump's ire than DeSantis. And a bit of a advice for President Trump, if they set you up with a trap, maybe it is smart not to go into the trap.
I get the primaries will be what they will be. Donald Trump certainly has the right to compete in that forum. But the mistiming of these attacks diminished Trump, not the persons he was attacking. Trump should be going after Biden and the Media, not fellow Republicans. Trump may find that the primaries in 2024 are very different for him than 2016.

Although in fairness if the opposition in 2024 is Biden Harris or Clinton I'd even consider supporting a mediocre candidate
