  1. When I was married, the house rum was Pussser's overproof. 92 proof, iifc. For drinking. Neat. Very rich, doesn't mix well. Kept a handle of Bacardi to make mixed drinks, like mango strawberry daiquiris. "Pusser's' is a mumbling of 'Purser's'. The purser was the shipboard accountant, essentially. keeping track of the 'purse'. And the grog supply. Grog was diluted rum, a source of graft for bent pursers.
    Butlers had the same opportunity for ripping off the master. The butler had control over the wine cellar (the butts, 128 gallons). That's why 'the butler did it'.
