The Stand (2020)
Yeah, yeah, I know global pandemics are sooooo 2020. While Stephen King is just slightly less annoying than Rob "Meatball" Reiner when it comes to celebrity politics (which means he is really well beyond insufferable on the spectrum of fuck-nuts), I do like his books. The Stand is my favorite. I also really liked the 1994 mini-series.
The new mini series is ok--yes it is not as good at the novel, but let's be honest the first mini series was sort of cheesy too. The non-linear story telling is ok if you read the book and watched the first mini-series. Would be distracting if the material is unfamiliar to you. It is also obviously filmed in British Columbia.
It was worth watching, but not worth getting a subscription from CBS. Poor casting of Whoopi Goldberg as Mother Abagail, but casting Amber Heard as Nadine Cross was inspired.
Most of King's books have a supernatural inspiration, but this one is very Christian. Which I appreciated.
Rotten Tomatoes: The Stand (this is one where the critics thought it ok, but the audiences mostly hated it).
