The Name of the Rose: A Review

I liked the novel and movie, but this miniseries is very good too. Jon Turturro is excellent as William of Baskerville. Set in 1327 in Northern Italy (just two decades before the Black Death swept Europe). The story is mostly about William solving the murders happening in the Abbey and its extensive and mysterious library, but the sub-theme of the inquisition ravaging the people does resonate right now.

The novel is excellent in placing you in that time period. The miniseries format helps to explain the world this is set in. It is a Sundance production (and also available from AMC+).
