Does this conversation collaborate Ferguson Officer Darren Wilson's version of events in the shooting of Michael Brown? Update: Darren Wilson's Facebook Post? Update II: Is the Facebook Post a hoax?

Hmmm.  Michael Brown advancing on Darren Wilson?  That does not sound like he was surrendering.

Conservative Treehouse notes:
The video was taken in the aftermath of the shooting, and judging from the comments attributed to the uploader -although he was not a direct witness- he felt the video was affirmational toward Mike Brown and the anti-police narrative.

However, probably unknown -or at least unnoticed- in the background of the video you can hear an audio conversation of a male eye witness to the shooting itself describing what he saw to another curious male spectator. Again, the conversation of importance is in the background.
@6:28/6:29 of video
#1 How’d he get from there to there?
#2 Because he ran, the police was still in the truck – cause he was like over the truck
{crosstalk}
#2 But him and the police was both in the truck, then he ran – the police got out and ran after him
{crosstalk}
#2 Then the next thing I know he doubled back toward him cus - the police had his gun drawn already on him –
#1. Oh, the police got his gun
#2 The police kept dumpin on him, and I’m thinking the police kept missing – he like – be like – but he kept coming toward him
{crosstalk}
#2 Police fired shots – the next thing I know – the police was missing
#1 The Police?
#2 The Police shot him
#1 Police?
#2 The next thing I know … I’m thinking … the dude started running … (garbled something about “he took it from him”)

The Narrative Breaks Down

  1. It looks like Wilson was defending himself.

    And Holder, of course, will do nothing to his people for stirring all this up.

  2. It looks like that to people who want to see that.

    There is nothing in that transcript that says anything to support a "self defense" claim by the cop. Nothing at all.

    1. It is not the main conversation, it is the background one (and granted it is difficult to hear). Nothing in that transcript? Someone is describing Brown going back on Wilson and getting shot. "Then the next thing I know he doubled back toward him cus - the police had his gun drawn already on him" That statement is hearsay and we don't know who that person is saying that in the background, but if the events did go that way it does support the police officer's version of events.

      It seems unlikely an officer with no prior history of racism would go and gun down a person surrendering. Especially in the open like that. It seems more likely than not to me that something escalated things.

      I was not there. Obviously a lot of this depends on who escalated things first, how close they really were when the shots were fired, etc. The autopsy, if done right, may answer some of this.

    2. I know what's being referred to. "Doubled back toward him" doesn't necessarily mean he "charged" at him. It could mean any number of things, including that he faced him and stepped toward the cop in surrender. According to that same witness, the cop fired and missed several times before the kid turned around, no? But all I'm saying is that this isn't anything like the "smoking gun" that it's being portrayed as in some circles.

      As for the officer's history, everybody's history is clean until his first fuckup. Again, I'm not claiming that the cop was a "racist." That's a red herring, IMO. The question is whether he used minimal necessary force. I don't know. But I do think I understand why the victim's family and the larger community is upset.

      To be clear, I don't claim any expertise at all in this case, as I have not gotten into the details of it. If I had to guess, I'd guess that this is the result of two men feeling disrespected by the other, with deadly consequences. But I'm solely commenting on the ambiguity of the background conversation in that video.

    3. I do not consider that tape conclusive (it is not even admissible without a witness to confirm what he saw). I agree it is ambiguous. That is why the autopsy is important. The distance the shots were fired. I heard it as the cop shot after Brown turned (but again it is difficult to follow). There would be a big difference between walking towards him with his hands up and charging him.

      Sort of reminds me of that off duty New Jersey cop who shot the guy in the road rage case in Maryland (the cop got acquitted in that one).

    4. I agree w. all you said.

      The thing that struck me most in that video was how long MIchael's body was left uncovered in the middle of the street. Maybe that's standard, and I just get the wrong idea from tv, but it seemed cold.
