A scant 5 weeks before 12/7/41, a German U-Boat sank the USS Reuben James. Woody Guthrie wrote a song about it which the Kingston Trio recorded. Somebody made a fantastic YouTube video which I wrote about here
I did not know about that incident. Thanks for the link. Of that crowd, Pete Seeger was very much any war (until his beloved Soviet Union was threatened). But Woody Guthrie, even though I disagreed with his politics, was an American patriot.
