Slavery in America: It was bad, but not unique...

 


The institution was neither unique to the United States nor central to its growth and prosperity. Slavery in the antebellum South was a brutal system that enriched individual planters but did not drive broad-based prosperity in the United States, contrary to the claims of writers such as Nikole Hannah-Jones and Ta-Nehisi Coates.
