Why did Massie lose tonight?
— Sean Davis (@seanmdav) May 20, 2026
Massie went from principled libertarian during COVID, to GOP leadership lapdog under McCarthy, to anti-Trump Epstein obsessive in 2025 after tweeting about that issue a whopping three (3) times in the decade prior. The nail in the coffin for him was…
Classless and clueless.

What a way to go out. https://t.co/ATPSpCNVRV
.@EdGallrein served his country combat for decades, proving his manhood. And this little toad can’t even concede like a man.

I’m not angry at Massie. I’m frankly mortified for him. https://t.co/IQKW3Nozym
Massie made two strategic mistakes.
— Bonchie (@bonchieredstate) May 20, 2026
1) He alienated a lot of Trump fans by going all-in over unevidenced Epstein conspiracies that he ultimately couldn't back up, apparently blinded by the seal-clapping from social media. The perception became that he was doubling down for clout…
Massie’s biggest mistake was likely believing that social media is real life, that people like Candace Owens and Tucker Carlson and Alex Jones had managed to wrest enough influence from Trump that seeking their good opinion was the only constituency he needed to win over.
