Those are American POWs in Japan freed after Nagasaki
9 August 1945 : Nagasaki Bomb
As the son of one of those US serviceman in the pacific who might have gotten one of those millions of purple hearts that they're still using today because of the expected casualties of invading Japan I find it not dark at all.
