How the Ukrainians resisted the invasion of 24 February 2022.
The Russians did try to end it in a few days...
The real start was February 2014.
During my senate campaign in 2022, I met a Ukrainian-American man in NE Ohio. He was very angry about my views on the conflict, and my desire to bring it to a rapid close.

The real start was in December of 1999, when Putin took power. He immediately emptied Russia's prisons, armed the prisoners, and sent them across the border into Luhansk and Donetsk with promises that they'd have a free hand to rape, rob, and murder if they'd do a bit of the ol' ethnic cleansing for him.
ReplyDeleteThis was only four years after Clinton promised the Ukrainians that the US military would protect them if they'd give up their nuclear arsenal. Ukrainian blood is on our hands. We are the authors of the current bloodbath almost as much as Putin is.
Who is this "we" you refer to? I agree the Clintons and Obama sold out the Ukrainians, but the Democrats and Ukrainian Oligarchs also have a certain...understanding...about skimming off $$$ from US. tax payer aid.
DeleteI am sympathetic to the Ukrainian people, but I do not want to continue to see US tax money subsidizing a stalemate that does not change anything and keeps killing Ukrainian and Russian conscripts.
So far, the only way that has been offered to end the war is the betrayal of Ukraine. Munich II, if you will. I would like to see the war end, with Putin back in his country, and Ukraine's borders respected as Russia promised in the Budapest Memorandum. So far, Putin has denied that option.
DeleteAt present, there is only one viable way to end the war, and that is the defeat of Putin, which is certainly possible if Ukraine were to be given the aid she needs to eject Russia from Ukraine. Biden dribbled aid, with a lot of that aid now appearing to have been skimmed in DC.
The "stalemate" exists because of the lack of aid. Even without adequate aid, Ukraine has been able to hold Russia to miniscule advances costing thousands of Russian lives.
Let's just start a nuclear war. That will save Ukraine. Or we can call a cease fire with the borders as they are.
