My Dad went into the Marines at 17 in 43 and was in the Pacific Island Hopping. He was severely wounded on Okinawa as he was blown up on a jeep with 5 others who died. His best friend was in the same regiment and was our Insurance Agent so I would hear them talk, but he would never talk to us about it. His scars were horrible and he spent a year in a Naval Hospital in traction.
My oldest uncle was in the Army with Patton. My other uncle was in the Navy on the Missouri from when it got commissioned until 47 and was part of the gun crew that the Japanese signed the surrender under.
