The failures of New Orleans were mostly due to Democrats who ran New Orleans. But the media and Democrats managed to make it all about George W. Bush. And they broke him. And they want to break any Republican or person who dares to stand up to them.

The Maui fires are a bit different. There is litterally no Republican to blame. So the media is actively covering up the story.  It is being memory holed.  Oh wait, there is a hurricane heading to Florida today!

    In the Katrina hysteria it's easy to forget how Bush 43 was excoriated by the left and the media for 'interfering' with the recovery from Hurricane Francis. He went to view the damaged and they said he shouldn't have gone. So when Katrina hit, he stayed away, and immediately got sane treatment for the opposite response. "George Bush doesn't like black people' and that nonsense.
