Supreme Court rules West Virginia transsexuals can compete on girl teams (for now)
The Supreme Court did not authorize an emergency stay, pending review by the lower circuit court. So for now male to female transitionees can compete on West Virginia girl teams. Until there are more definiative rulings--not great, but really that big a deal. I was surprised by this comment below:
West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice (R) could not cite a specific example of a transgender athlete with an unfair competitive advantage in his state when asked during an interview following his approval of the bill, but said his experience as a girls’ basketball coach led him to believe the legislation is fair.
I should not take this at face value, since the Hill and MSNBC could be setting Gov. Justice up and lying (the media does that you know). Still, you'd think he have a staff to help him out on this. If you have a male transitioning to female, then for most sports that would be inherently an unfair advantage for that person competing against women.
