19 February 1966: President Kennedy's Casket Burried At Sea

After an initial standoff with Earl Rose, the Coroner in Dallas who tried to insist an autopsy take place in Texas, the body of President Kennedy was taken to Washington DC. An autopsy was performed at Bethesda Naval Hospital.

The coffin used to transport the deceased President Kennedy from Dallas was not used for his state funeral. It was held by the National Archieves for a few years.

To avoid it falling into the wrong hands, and at the request of Robert Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy, the coffin was dropped into the ocean in very deep water.
