While Andrew Cuomo is engaging in the final solution in old age homes in New York, Democrat Kate Brown is locking down almost all of Oregon through July 6.
A circuit judge said Governor Brown has got to get authority from the legislature. The Supreme Court of Oregon stayed that order, pending briefing by both sides. Kate Brown argues that lifting restrictions will overflow Oregon's hospitals (which at this stage is complete hyperbole and nonsense, given the reopenings in Georgia and Texas).
Oregon never really got hit by Coronavirus. Nearby Washington had it early on, but never got overwhelmed and has weathered the storm. That Kate Brown has not eased restrictions in Oregon at this point says more about her than any science. This is no longer about public health, but about government control.
Kate Brown is not much different than other blue state governors trying to shut everything down indefinitely (or at least through November 2020). Should the vulnerable (such as those in nursing homes) be protected from the virus--of course. If people with compromised health conditions want to stay home, let them stay home. Let the rest of us get back to work and our lives.
