Daily Mail: Dead In The Streets of Wuhan
I am not sure Coronavirus will be the tipping point for the ChiCom system, but it may very well be the tipping point for Xi. There are some similarities between the old Soviet system and the current Chinese Communist Party--an obsession with security and secrecy. That is an impossible way to deal with a disaster. A failed response to a disaster also undermines a leader.
Millions Left Wuhan. Death Toll Jump. Wet Market vs. Secret Government Bioweapon? Mass Arrests? There are reportes that new cases are dropping and there are alternative dire reports out of China. I take both reports with a grain of salt, but I suspect this is far from over yet.
The 1917-18 influenza started off mild, yet got progressively deadly and went on to infect 500 million people (a third of the human population of the planet) and killing about 50 million (mostly young people in their prime). Coronavirus is not influenza, but it is probably similarly passed and is certainly far more serious than most recent disease outbreaks. Even if it is not that leathal in its current form, viruses mutate.
