Watchmen (HBO): A Review




This Watchmen is set in 2019 in its alternative history universe, but starts off with a flashback to the Tulsa Race Riots of 1921 (which is not alternative history).  The only thing treated as canon is the original Alan Moore and David Gibbon's graphic novel--it does not track the changes from the 2009 film. As you can guess, Easter Eggs galore (and spoilers). 

I do not want to give too much away. Race is a central theme in this story. So are relations between the police and the public. The first episode was structured well enough to make me want to watch another--but when critics love it and audiences are a bit more ambivalent that is a concern. David Lindelof (who is producing and writing this project) is off to a good start--let's hope this is not another Lost (a project that started off well and ended poorly).
