Judy Garland, RIP


Judy Garland died in a London hotel on June 22, 1969 (fifty years ago). It is said reaction to Judy's funeral on June 27-28, 1969 prompted a bunch of her supporters to go to the Stonewall Inn (a Mafia run gay bar on Christopher Street in the Village). There was a NYPD raid that night in the bar that resulted in a riot (which lead to gay and transgender pride events being held in June). I am sure Judy would love the legends and legacy, but her suicide and death were still a sad end to a troubled life. RIP.

    I had never seen the connection between the Stonewall Inn and Judy Garland's death. It is informative, as well as a little funny. We should explore that great question that everyone is curious about - Why are gay men so into show tunes?
