The
largest owl that ever lived was Cuba's extinct
Ornimegalonyx. It was just over 3 feet (a little more than a meter) high. It probably did not fly very far with its short stubby wings. It developed on Cuba before there were any large mammalian predators there. It died out probably around the time humans first showed up there (along with
dogs).
