This was when her reputation as an actress (Paramount specifically wanted her for the role) really took off with a nomination for Best Actress (considering she was up against Paulette Goddard, no mean feat).
The irony is that, when she went back to work after the lawsuit, she got another Best Actress nomination and 2 Best Actress Oscars in her next 3 pictures. Shows how dumb Jack Warner was.
You also see Olivia the woman emerging from Olivia the ingenue.
Not a fave of mine (soap operas are not my thing; I like the lighter stuff like her movies with Flynn and "Strawberry Blonde"), but you see how good she is when she dumps Boyer. Incredible change of gears.

I had a feeling you would appreciate this film. Yes both Goddard and de Havilland are excellent, but de Havilland really shines in this roll.
