Lion is a very well done movie. Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman give excellent performances. The story, which is based on a true story, seems well adapted and the cinematography is very good. They go out of their way to make Tasmania look great. That said, you can also see it on streaming or DVD and still enjoy the film.
Will it win anything at the Academy Awards? Sadly, if it were in the running probably not after Nicole Kidman said Hollywood should accept Trump is president now. Even though Kidman was not endorsing Trump, she is probably blacklisted for that. I hope I am wrong, but I also know how Hollywood is. Then again, Weinstein (who produced it) is currently using opposition to the Trump travel ban as a marketing ploy. Politics should not be part of it, but that is how Hollywood rolls.
Lion is up for best picture, cinematography and Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman for best supporting actor/actress (which is actually insane since both Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman are the lead actors in that movie) and best adapted screenplay. There is stiff competition in all those categories. I think it should at least win for best adapted screenplay.
Wombat: Power Line: Green Weenie Of The Week – Gina McCarthy, also, Elizabeth Warren For President!
