Without property rights, money to these communities (not to the leaders but the people on the ground), and a vested interest for locals to save endangered but dangerous large animals, there will be no interest in saving them.
The money is there for poaching, so that is what people in Africa do. The risk is low compared to the rewards. All the posturing and posing by PETA and Hollywood activities will not change that.
