Here is a Hillenbrand interview
Louis Zamperini, looking out of a hole in his B-24. Not too long after this his plane crashed and he was on a life raft for 47 days living on rainwater, albatrosses and the occasional fish.
Mutsuhiro "The Bird" Watanabe was a vicious tormentor of Zamperini and other American POWs. He managed to avoid capture and was given a general pardon with other war criminals in the fifties.
