Everything bad is gluten...

6 comments:

  1. Timely post on greed & marketing taking over for medicine. Less than 1% of the population is subject to actual celiac disease, but upwards of 20% are now into the "fad" of gluten free diets. Business must be good since you can now buy quinoa everything, even bed sheets I think. Had this occurred 1000 years ago the world's population would be half what it is today due to malnutrition and outright lack of food stocks. I can't buy toilet paper now in the market with out dodging around some quinoa crap. I figure there's gonna be a need for more TP 'cause shortly the psychosomatic affects of "gluten" will; give everyone the symptoms.

    1. There is nothing wrong with avoiding or cutting back on wheat (it does contribute to inflammation). Problem is rather than eating more veggies and healthy meats, people substitute sugar and a bunch of alternative grains to avoid "gluten." So all you have done is something of negligible value from a health perspective (and in some cases worse) at greatly increased cost.

    2. There is a reason Italians (in Italy) usually have a small plate of pasta as part of their meal and not several heaping bowls of the stuff. Truth is if you eat moderately of what you really like (and have a variety of fruits, meats, veggies, etc.), you will be satiated and will naturally not over eat.

    3. I certainly agree with you on the idea of a balanced diet. My point is that for 99% of the people curring back on wheat is unnecessary if they aren't abusing it in the first place. The "gluten scare" is a scam...like Sushi being good for you :-))

As for gastrointestinal issues, you are talking to the choir...they've been part of my life ever since my first bout (1956) with a nice little mountain stream bug named "Giardia" and my only salvation these days from chronic stomach issues is by eating a balanced diet, over-doing nothing.

  2. Maybe you're just a gluten for punishment?
