Anyone running a pool on when John Boehner chickens out on defunding Obamacare?

  1. In the immortal words of ASAC Shrader, "He made up his mind up 10 minutes ago..." It's just a matter of when Boehner is going to do it.

  2. Actually, I thought he already had.

  3. I've tried many times, on a couple forums to explain what Continuing Resolutions (CR's) are in fact. No one seems to get it. Boehner, doesn't have to chicken out because it is only a CR that's up for a vote, not a formal budget appropriation. Under a CR, even if there is language in it "de-funding" Obamacare, it won't have that effect. See a CR allows for low oversight transfer of funding between applications. A good example is how Obama managed to fund his pre-school initiative, which was "un-funded" by a CR. Simple, he took money from parts of Obamacare that were funded, but not yet implemented, and transferred it to the pre-school fandango.

Boehner knows this, all the Democrats know this, I know this (I've lived it real time) ... but we're being sold this big "debate" about some words in a CR that are 100% meaningless.

  4. I need to add that ole Boehner is being set up to take the fall on this, when everyone in DC knows exactly how the system works, and no Democrats intend to take the blame for anything. The GOP is helping the Democrats.

It is laughable that we're even discussing it when there has been no formal appropriated budget for going on 5 years now. The Senate alone as not even brought a budget to the floor since 2009.

The lack of a real appropriated budget is the real issue. That is what should be discussed. And it is being ignored, again.

  5. Thanks for continuing the attempt to explain the CR stuff, Ari.
You manage to be incredibly patient with it. I wish I was able to do as well in my own life.

    1. Ari has a gift.

And yes this is all a sham. On so many levels.

    2. Here is the Continuing Resolution being debated. Read it and weep. I might have missed it, but see if you can find any provision that absolutely prohibits expenditure on the ACA? It appears to merely fail to mention it as "continued" in H&HS funding.

It really doesn't matter, since any money allocated to H&HS can be re-distributed to the ACA implementation, not to mention funds from other allocations.

    3. Thank you EBL, but I assure you that you are too kind. I have one of the worst tempers of anyone I know, literally an on/off switch that disconnects my heart from an angry brain. Only recently have I managed to garner a bit of patience, and that was by example of others I read on this site and other sites, and a couple people who contacted me to chill out.

Cody Jarret, thanks, too...actually CR's are old hat to me since I worked as military and a fed for many years. I guess it flabbergasts me that so many people don't realize what they are and how they are managed after we've been living on them for 4+ years. The CR resolution for 2014 appears to be for the entire year, which means Congress has no intention of marking up a budget at all, period. We all will live to regret this trend because it simply puts all power in the hands of an executive autocracy...one step from a royal aristocracy.

My apparent "patience" may just be that I am wearing out.
